Project Sound Barrier
My goal is to build a collection of models depicting the first breaking of the sound barrier in October 1947. I will include the following:
- Bell X-1 as flown by Chuck Yeager. For this we will be using the very nice Tamiya kit.
- Boeing EB-29, a modified B-29 bomber that served as the mothership for X-1 drops. My plan is to convert this from the Academy B-29 kit; there is a decal sheet from CanMilAir Decals. Lots of scratch-building, since the bomb bay was retrofitted to accommodate the X-1.
- Possibly a Willys Jeep that can be seen in many photographs where flights are being prepared. I will use the old Hasegawa's kit, with a scratch-built canvas top.
